Play Chinese chess against computer

You want a reply without waiting for someone to sit down at the stone table. Fine. Easy if your brain is soup. Medium when you still remember the river. Hard is for the day you hang a chariot and pretend it was a sacrifice.

The computer thinks on your phone or laptop. No monthly coach fee. Home is the same idea with fewer labels.

When

When to use

Solo lunch break. Practicing cannon forks without trash talk. Testing whether you still walk into a flying general mate.

When not

When not to

Hunting a human lobby — we don’t host that. Want the other chair on the same glass — chinese-chess-2-player. Never learned the pieces — start on how to play. Want western chess — wrong domain.

Defaults

Assumptions

Standard Chinese chess rules. Difficulty changes how deep it looks — not a magic always-win cheat. Record stays in this browser.

Steps

How

  1. Pick Easy / Medium / Hard — or change seats with Play as.
  2. Tap a piece, tap a landing. Wait a beat while the computer thinks.
  3. Get checked, get stubborn, hit New game. Argue with Record.

Worked notes

Examples

  • You’re rusty after years away → Easy lets you finish without getting wiped in twelve moves
  • You came from a site that froze while connecting to AI → here it thinks on your device — no cloud wait

Watch-outs

Gotchas

  • Hard is meaner, not a national team title.
  • Closing the tab mid-game can lose the position — don’t cry at the cloud.
  • Against computer results often mean adware wrappers; this page is just a board.
  • Search volume for the exact phrase is small. The page still exists because the product needs a difficulty door.

Seats

What the four levels actually change

Easy trades freely and leaves doors open — good for learning shapes. Medium guards its palace and punishes a hanging cannon. Hard looks further ahead. Master sits longer on crowded boards. Switching strength mid-game does not reset the board; the position stays where it is.

None of these are tournament ratings. They only change how hard the computer plays on your device.

Color

Red first, or black answering

Play as red and you move first — the usual park-table seat. Play as black and the AI opens as red while the board flips so your side stays near you. New game after a color change keeps the etiquette clean.

Rules

What ends a game on this seat

Checkmate and 困毙 (no legal move) match ordinary Xiangqi. Auto-draws are house rules: sixty quiet moves, or threefold repetition — with perpetual check (长将) losing for the checker. Perpetual chase and other tournament cycle bans are not fully enforced. Offer draw is answered by the AI’s material sense. Full wording sits on how to play.

Controls

Board controls

Strength row locks Easy / Medium / Hard. Play as swaps your color and starts a fresh board. New game clears the fight. Undo steps back while you practice. Hint suggests a move when we can. Sound stays muted until you turn it on.

FAQ

Can I get an online human opponent here?
Not on this URL. Computer only. No lobby, no room codes.
Is the engine in the cloud?
No. It thinks on your phone or computer — nothing waits in the cloud.
Is there an undo button?
Yes. Undo steps back so you can practice a line without restarting every time.
Why not only the homepage?
Because people type against computer like a mission, and missions deserve a door with the difficulty seats labeled.
Can I play as black?
Yes. Choose Black under Play as before or after a new game — the AI takes red and opens.
Are draws full competition rules?
No. Sixty quiet moves and threefold repetition (plus 长将 as a loss) are house automations. 长捉 and similar arbiter cycles are not fully judged. See how to play for the short list.
